Liverpool’s future vice-chairman Amit Bhatia was in attendance for the second home game in a row on Wednesday night, in a signal of his planned involvement.
Bhatia watched from the director’s box as Liverpool got off to the perfect start in the Champions League with a 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.
It marked his second time watching the Reds at Anfield since the announced sale of a significant minority stake in the club to his consortium 1892 Holdings.
The 47-year-old, whose father-in-law is Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, is fronting an investment group which also includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
With the purchase of 38 percent of Liverpool in a deal worth over £2 billion, Bhatia will be among those to take positions on the board, as vice-chairman alongside Fenway Sports Group’s Tom Werner.

He is expected to be the face of 1892 Holdings, who could become majority shareholders in the next 12 months, and has already showed his commitment.
Bhatia has now been in the stands for both of Liverpool’s home games this season and on Wednesday was presented with a gift by club ambassador Ian Rush.
That only supports the belief that Bhatia, who was a regular at Loftus Road during his 18 years as director and co-owner at QPR, will take a hands-on approach as part of the new leadership group.
Speaking to LFCTV after the deal – which is still in the process of being ratified – was announced, Bhatia said: “My involvement really, or our involvement really, would be in any capacity that FSG felt that we could be useful to them.
“So, subject to regulatory [approval], in any capacity that FSG wants us to be involved, in any way that they think that we can add value for the betterment of the football club, is how we will make ourselves available at all times.”

The expectation is that Bhatia will be involved to some extent as Liverpool oversee another reshuffle in the boardroom after Richard Hughes’ exit.
Hughes vacated his role as sporting director after just two years this month to take up the same position at Al-Hilal, which was a move effectively in the works since before the summer transfer window.
While FSG president Mike Gordon will lead the search for a new sporting director, it would be no surprise if Bhatia’s early presence at Liverpool sees him at least consulted on any decision.
