Heat reportedly interested in $37M ex-Lakers injury prone veteran that Bam Adebayo advocates for image
The Miami Heat have one final spot left on the roster, and they can do absolutely anything with it. The good news for them is that whenever they decide who they will have for the final roster spot, it will be under the hard cap.
Miami is tired of missing the playoffs or barely getting in. The hope is that by adding Giannis Antetokounmpo, they can finally build a roster full of guys they can compete with.
“With 14 of the maximum 15 roster spots filled, the Heat currently have the wherewithal to fill that 15th spot below the hard cap created by the machinations to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Sun Sentinel’s Ira Winderman wrote.
A big name that has been linked to the Heat is former guard Gabe Vincent. In fact, Bam Adebayo has reportedly been somewhat pushing for him to be signed.
“I would expect them to go guard for one of their final spots, I think a Gabe Vincent reunion there makes a lot of sense, especially since Bam Adebayo and Erik Spoelstra have been big advocates for him ever since Summer League. I would think that it is very likely at this point that they would give that to Gabe Vincent if he's willing to take a minimum (contract) there. I would expect them to go guard for one of their final spots. I think that Gabe Vincent, a reunion there makes a lot of sense," NBA insider Brett Siegel said.
Vincent was a fan favorite during his Finals run with Miami. According to Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney, the Heat are interested in Vincent.
“The Heat have weighed the likes of veteran backups Gabe Vincent and Cam Payne, but would prefer to find someone with a better upside. They do need a placeholder for that spot, though,” Deveney wrote.
Vincent’s time with the Los Angeles Lakers did not go as planned after signing with the team. Injuries were a major issue, and by the time he returned to the court, he struggled to find his groove.
Vincent has made $37 million throughout his career. The Heat would have little risk in adding a reliable shooter when healthy to the roster. After all, Vincent would be looking to revive his career, and if it doesn’t work out, Miami already has plenty of shooting on the roster.
