When Ronald Araujo’s surprise loan deal to Liverpool hit the mainstream media, it’s safe to say the Anfield faithful weren’t really excited.
The Barcelona defender endured an underwhelming 2025-26 campaign and slipped down the pecking order under Hansi Flick.
However, since his move to Liverpool, Araujo has become a popular man at Anfield with his performances at right-back.
And Deco feels Barcelona have full control over his future as he spoke candidly about his future.
Liverpool loanee Ronald Araujo praised by Deco
After getting his first start for Liverpool in the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town at right-back, the Uruguayan retained his spot for the 2-1 win vs Atletico Madrid.
Araujo defended really well and also made an impact in attack as his brilliant backheel set up Dom Szoboszlai for Liverpool’s equaliser.

“I love Ronald! I’m very fond of him, I loved to see him doing well yesterday,” said Deco after Liverpool’s 2-1 win against Atletico Madrid.
“I want him to succeed. At times, he hasn’t been able to perform at his best, but his time at Barça has been spectacular. He has a contract with us, and it’s still early days.”
Liverpool have the option to sign him for £47m at the end of the season. As Deco said, it’s still early days, but if he carries on like this, he could well be signed permanently in 2027.
