**Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has been disappointed with Milos Kerkez’s performances since his arrival at Anfield last summer.**
The Hungarian was at fault for Atletico Madrid’s opening goal on Wednesday night, and he has not produced the sort of form that got him his £40m switch to Merseyside. Speaking about the left-back’s problems, Murphy said:
“The Kerkez I saw at Bournemouth is not the Kerkez I am watching right now, that’s what I would say. I was not surprised Liverpool went and bought him when he was playing for Bournemouth – one of the best full-backs in the league by a distance.”
“But he hasn’t quite settled into that role where he was there. I don’t know whether sometimes a club’s too big for people, I hope that’s not the case with Kerkez.”
Iraola needs to get more out of him

Many felt that the appointment of Kerkez’s former manager would help the fullback reach his full potential, but so far, [**Andoni Iraola**](https://walkon.com/blog/liverpool-news-andoni-iraola-mendieta/) has not been able to get any more out of the player.
In their year together at Bournemouth, Iraola managed to get Kerkez scoring and providing assists on a regular basis. The defender had 8 goal contributions in total during the 2024/25 season.
Liverpool will have to make a decision this summer

Some may argue that Kerkez has time on his side. After all, he is still only 22 years of age, but as Murphy points out, the player’s progress has stalled and even gone backwards over the last 15 months.
The Reds are not a team that can afford to be patient with him. Two seasons is a fair amount of time to come to a definitive judgement, and if he can’t meet the standards required, the club may have to cut their losses.
