The NFL is reportedly investigating Philadelphia Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro over comments former Fox Sports analyst Emmanuel Acho made on his _Speakeasy_ podcast in August.
While discussing the offseason story surrounding San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan’s car accident, in which an initial police report blamed the driver of the other vehicle before Shanahan [later assumed full responsibility](https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/kyle-shanahan-meets-local-reporters-admits-fault-car-accident.html) and attributed the erroneous report to a clerical error, Acho drew on one of his own experiences from his NFL playing days to explain what he believes actually happened.
Without specifying which of the three teams he played for at the time, Acho recalled once rear-ending another vehicle on his way to practice.
“I (call) one of our security people. He says, Acho, when the cop shows up, send the cop away. I’m going to send you another cop, and that other cop is going to say it wasn’t your fault; it was their fault. I was like, ‘Wait, they do that?’
“So I hit him, cop comes up, ‘Hey, is everything good?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, everything’s good, don’t worry about it, somebody’s gonna come here.’
“That cop leaves; we send another cop. The other cop that comes to document says that she’s at fault.”
Acho said that he didn’t feel bad about the situation because the other driver claimed that she and her daughter were injured after figuring out that he was a professional athlete.
“Our head of security had to offer them two home tickets plus signed jerseys,” he said, “and then they were like, ‘Oh, no, we’re fine.'”
“Niners got ahead of it,” Acho speculated. “Hey, Shanahan, it wasn’t you, it was them. Shanahan’s like, ‘hell nah, they finna come out and say what really happened, so let me get ahead of it and say, no, no, no, I’m at fault, before this person who I actually hit, who knows I was at fault, says it.'”
Following Acho’s comments, speculation arose that DiSandro was the head of security who aided Acho, and on Wednesday, longtime Eagles reporter Derrick Gunn shared the consequences of what the former linebacker almost certainly assumed would be a throwaway story.
“The NFL is still investigating Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro based on comments made by Emmanuel Acho on his Speakeasy Podcast back in early August,” [Gunn posted on X](https://x.com/GunnOnOne/status/2097743540981731587?s=20). “Acho, who played for 3 NFL teams, never mentioned a name. But it has been widely speculated he was referring to Big Dom.”
If DiSandro is the person Acho was referring to, the NFL could make an example of the Eagles by punishing the franchise in an effort to deter other teams from engaging in similar behavior. But if Philadelphia is punished, it would also lend some credence to Acho’s theory, and he could reasonably argue that the league owes San Francisco an investigation, too.
