The New York Knicks face uncertainty over whether they can retain their reliable championship-winning backup guard long-term.
Knicks long-time reporter and insider Ian Begley is skeptical about New York and Deuce McBride reaching a new contract this offseason.
"McBride on an expiring contract is one of the most valuable trade chips in the league. He would garner significant interest if New York made him available via trade – either in-season or in the offseason," the report indicated.
"We’re certainly not there yet. But logic tells you that’s where things could be headed."

Deuce McBride is currently extension-eligible this summer for the New York Knicks.
McBride will be entering the final year of his three-year, $13 million contract. He will earn roughly $3.9 million for the upcoming season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next offseason.
With the departure of Mitchell Robinson, McBride is now the Knicks' longest-tenured active player. He averaged 12.0 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.4 rebounds last season, but was limited to 41 games due to sports hernia surgery.
The Knicks are currently facing a dilemma in handling their expenses and how to avoid the second apron. With both Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart also being extension-eligible, that leaves McBride's contract situation with the defending champs unknown.

Still, Deuce McBride's representatives and New York Knicks leadership are in constant contact this offseason.
While there is undeniable doubt about the partnership of both sides heading into next season, this still gives McBride and the Knicks a possibility to hammer a new deal.
"It's worth noting that the Knicks and McBride’s representatives have been in regular contact ahead of the season," Begley added. "In a perfect world, those conversations would produce a multi-year extension for McBride."
