The Los Angeles Rams were dealt a setback during their NFL season opener against the San Francisco 49ers as tight end Davis Allen suffered an injury in the third quarter.
Allen was being evaluated for a concussion after taking a hard hit with 8:52 remaining in the third quarter. The Rams were trailing 17-7 at the time and Allen had just converted a first down while rushing before taking the hit.
Allen immediately went to the ground and appeared to briefly assume the fencing response position before stumbling as he tried to get up. He visited the blue medical tent before being carted off to the locker room.

Davis Allen suffers concussion after scary hit
Allen was listed as questionable to return against the 49ers. His potential absence leaves the Rams without an important part of their tight end rotation.
The 25-year-old entered the season coming off the most productive year of his NFL career. Allen appeared in all 17 games for Los Angeles in 2025, recording 24 receptions for 208 yards and three touchdowns. He also continued to provide the Rams with a blocking option alongside veteran Tyler Higbee.

The Rams will now have to rely more heavily on Higbee and their remaining tight ends if Allen is sidelined beyond Thursday.
Third injury during 49ers vs Rams
Allen’s injury came shortly after the 49ers suffered their own significant loss. San Francisco rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling was ruled out earlier in the game after suffering an ankle injury, while tight end Jake Tonges also exited with a knee injury.
The Rams now face a similar situation at tight end. There is no confirmed diagnosis beyond the concussion evaluation, but Los Angeles will hope his injury is not as severe as it looked.
The Rams opened the season with a 27-7 loss to their AFC West rivals. They will look to respond when they return to action at home against the New York Giants on Sept. 21.
