Liverpool wonderkid Samuel Martinez is believed to have rejected offers from Manchester United, Barcelona, and a whole host of other clubs to join the Reds this summer.
It follows a transfer market that was largely about building for the future, both within the first-team and the academy ranks, with the team needing to rebuild after an era of world-class players have been and gone.
Some of those are set to make a more immediate impact, such as Bradley Barcola, who Liverpool shelled out $166 million for, as well as Victor Munoz and Jeremy Jacquet. However, there have also been deals with many years ahead in mind, such as Lucca Brughmans, the 18-year-old Genk goalkeeper who re-joined his old club on loan for the campaign before he returns to Anfield in search of more minutes.

There have been several other academy deals, such as Djylian N'Guessan, with the hope of landing youngster who will develop into the next top stars, before rivals can barge in and land them.
That was also the case for Martinez, a Colombian youngster from Atletico Nacional, who has caught the eye in his appearances at youth level.
At 17 years old, he won't be able to officially join up with Liverpool until next summer, when he turns 18, but it turns out the Reds had to beat plenty of competition for his signature.

Samuel's parents, Jairo Martinez and Victoria Valencia, told Gol Caracol about the decision, with Jairo revealing: "Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City, Barcelona, Watford, Udinese, Chelsea, Manchester United, among others, wanted him.
"Every offer that came in, we would sit down, plan, and look at which options were better than the others. Samuel is the one who makes the final decision, and at that moment, he chose Liverpool”
Liverpool could have Luis Diaz to thank for that, with his fellow countryman seemingly decide on a move due to his influence in his time at Anfield.
“Lucho Diaz opened the doors to all Colombians," Martinez senior explained. "They saw in Samuel all that potential he had, which was almost similar to the things Lucho Diaz does."
If Liverpool can get the same sort of influence out of Martinez, as he continues to progress, as it got out of Diaz, then it will almost certainly prove to be a successful move.
It remains to be seen what the youngster's career trajectory will be like, but the Reds continue to pursue the best and brightest of the next generation around the world to build a team capable of being the best in the world again.
