The La Masia-trained youngster Brian Farinas was one of the players who saw his career take a decisive turn during the last summer transfer window. He was close to joining the recently relegated Girona, but Hansi Flick convinced him to stay at FC Barcelona, especially as the coach needed him to fill the gap left by Frenkie de Jong’s injury.

Now, even though he has not yet made his debut with the first team, it seems like the Catalans are already looking to give him a new contract.
In this regard, [SPORT](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/deco-encarrila-renovacion-brian-farinas-134150569) reports that the player’s agent, Borja Garcia, was present at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper offices on Thursday, and held a meeting with the sporting director, Deco. The meeting went very well and a lot of progress was made towards the youngster’s new contract, which will see both his salary and release clause increase significantly.
Farinas joined the Barcelona youth academy from Villarreal, and seems to have taken a decisive step in his career this summer. The change in his status has also been quite visible, not only from the fact that he now has a first team number and is training under Flick, but also from other more subtle cues.
One such cue is the car that he drives. Only a few days ago, he used to travel to the club facilities for training on a two-decade-old Toyota Auris 2007. Then, last week, he was given an electric CUPRA Raval by the club management, as he is now a full-fledged first team player. However, there has been further improvement, as on Thursday he received a CUPRA Formentor VZ5, the same vehicle that other first team players drive because of an agreement with the automobile company.
