**Thierno Barry has picked up the first major individual honour of his** [**Everton**](https://readeverton.com/) **career. Sort of.**
The striker has been named Carabao Cup Player of the Round following his performance in Everton’s 4-0 second-round win at Preston.
Barry scored a hat-trick at Deepdale and also set up Brennan Johnson for Everton’s fourth, which was enough to earn him the award through a public vote. So congratulations are in order.
Admittedly, Carabao Cup Player of the Round may not have occupied too much space in Barry’s childhood dreams. And this isn’t Player of the Tournament — there are several rounds still to negotiate before we get anywhere near those dizzy heights. Nor is it the Ballon D’Or.
But an award is an award, and Barry certainly earned it
More importantly for Everton, his treble at Preston came after his goal against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, giving him four goals in the space of two games. Things have been quieter since, but after a difficult first season in England there have been early signs that the 23-year-old is finding his feet.
Given Everton’s failure to add another striker before the transfer deadline, David Moyes could certainly do with that continuing. For now, Barry can enjoy his award. There will, presumably, be space on the mantelpiece.
