The 2026/27 Premier League season has gotten off to a real flyer. Teams such as Arsenal and Manchester City are hitting expectations at the moment, while outfits like Hull City have overperformed. But who are delivering results below par right now?
At the moment, there are three teams in England’s top division who still haven’t scored a goal as of yet. Who are they and why is this the case?
We’ll take a deep dive on each of the unfortunate trio today and look to find out why they have had such a bad time in front of goal.
Coventry City
Of course, going three games without scoring a goal is never ideal, but it’s somewhat understandable in Coventry City’s case. They simply haven’t got going this season and lack a little in the way of their attacking ranks.
Still, after scoring a whopping 97 goals in the Championship last season, it’s surprising that they’ve been unable to score even one in the Premier League so far this season.
Their newly-signed striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, hasn’t got going yet. It hasn’t helped that Haji Wright, who was the Sky Blues’ top scorer in the previous campaign, has been injured and isn’t due to return until late November.
They’ve had a tricky run-in, too. Having been beaten the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal so far, as well as fellow promoted side Hull, Frank Lampard’s men are currently rock-bottom of the Premier League table.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa have shown signs of a dramatic fall-off after having such a successful season in 2025/26. They might be Europa League champions, but they’re nonetheless goalless so far in 2026/27.
They opened their Premier League season by taking a 4-0 schellacking at the hands of Brighton, during which summer signing Joao Gomes was sent off. For any club, this would be a disastrous start – but for Villa, who had genuine expectations behind them, it’s even worse.
With such a monumental turnover of playing staff in the summer, which saw Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers leave the club, Villa have lacked creativity and a goalscoring edge thus far.
They do now have one point on the board, at least. They drew 0-0 with Hull last time out – their backline might’ve been shored up, but Unai Emery has some work to do if he wants to get the Villans firing again.
Tottenham Hotspur
The most damning inclusion of all, by some distance. With the amount of money thrown around by Tottenham this summer, there really can be no excuse for such an insipid start to the season.
Like Villa, they aren’t pointless, having drawn with Nottingham Forest last weekend in a dull-as-ditchwater 0-0 stalemate. Not the sort of thing you’d expect from such a high-rolling outfit.
For all the money they spent in the summer, not much of this financial muscle was used to bolster their attacking ranks. Granted, Savio was a big-money signing, but he hasn’t done much towards improving their fortunes in front of goal so far.
We have yet to see players such as Omar Marmoush and Mykhailo Mudryk hit the ground running for the Lilywhites – perhaps they could be the missing piece of the puzzle?
