After back-to-back league defeats, Roberto De Zerbi’s side at least got off the mark in the top flight, as they played out a 0-0 draw with Nottingham Forest last weekend. It was an improved display from the opening two games, with the defence especially standing together to keep a clean sheet and eke a point at the City Ground, which has been a tough place to go for Spurs in recent years.
However, Roberto De Zerbi knows the problems Tottenham have and must address them quickly. Zero goals across 270 minutes of Premier League action clearly shows where the problems actually lie, and that is despite Spurs bringing in the likes of Savio, Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke.

De Zerbi handed Omar Marmoush his Tottenham debut against Nottingham Forest. Signed on loan from Manchester City with an obligation to buy, Omar Marmoush squandered a glorious opportunity in the first half when he went through on goal. The 27-year-old blazed his shot past the far post, leaving De Zerbi frustrated on the sidelines.
As a result, famous Spurs podcaster John Wenham thinks De Zerbi might opt to change the Egyptian international’s position to the No.10 role behind the main striker against Everton on Saturday. That position change would give Dominic Solanke the chance to start his first league game of the campaign.
“Conor Gallagher, who I’ve backed, was poor again, he kind of just went through the motions, just charging around, didn’t actually offer anything,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“I don’t think it will be too long, and maybe even against Everton, where we see him come out of the team and Marmoush drop a little bit deeper, maybe playing as a 10, or maybe Mohammed Kudus will play as a 10, having had another sub appearance yesterday, and Solanke will lead the line up front.
“I just think Marmoush doesn’t have the right build to lead the line up front, whereas I think Solanke does, and I think we’ll see Marmoush play behind him as a 10.
“I think that may come as soon as Everton, and once that does happen, I don’t think we’ll change that formation for a little while.”
De Zerbi must find solutions to Tottenham’s attacking woes
Tottenham are up against Everton at home on Saturday. We are heading into matchweek four, and the Everton fixture already feels like a must-win for De Zerbi’s side.
Despite spending a fortune on attacking reinforcements, Spurs are one of three teams yet to find the back of the net in the league, with Aston Villa and Coventry City being the other two. De Zerbi might alter his XI and bring in Solanke as a focal point, which is exactly what the Lilywhites are dearly missing. And by doing so, Marmoush could drop in the hole and complement Solanke.
