Chelsea are nearing a new dawn with Behdad Eghbali solely at the helm of the Premier League giants. Alongside Todd Boehly, the billionaire co-founder of Clearlake Capital were behind a consortium of investors to buy the west London side in 2022 for £4.25billion.

Four years on from the purchase, the Iranian-American billionaire is closing in on full control of the football club. Reports emerged last month that negotiations had begun for Boehly, Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss to sell their shared 38.5% of Chelsea to Clearlake and Bloomberg now reports that a deal is nearing completion following an acceleration in talks in recent weeks.

The potential sale would increase Eghbali and his firm's share in the club from 61.5% to 99.9%. According to Forbes, Eghbali, 50, has a net worth of £2.8bn, but even that staggering figure pales in comparison to some of the richest owners in the English top-flight.

Standing at the top of the monetary conversation in the Premier League top-flight are Newcastle United's owners, the Public Investment Fund. The sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia tips the scale at £1.2trillion, with Liverpool's ownership combination of Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and Jeff Bezos' backed consortium possessing a net worth of £265bn in second place.

The new investment group at Anfield is headed by former QPR owner Amit Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mitta, whose net worth sits at around £22bn. The Amazon founder is the third-richest individual in the world and has a net worth of £198bn.

Manchester City's Sheikh Mansour used to reign supreme at the top of the Premier League rich list, but now sits third with his personal wealth sitting at £20bn. Minority City shareholders Silver Lake take City's ownership value to £24bn.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's fortune is estimated at £15.2bn by the Sunday Times Rich List, with the Manchester United co-owner's wealth sitting higher than his business partners in the Glazer Family. According to Forbes, the long-time United owners have a net worth of £8.9bn.

Sports magnate Stan Kroenke has enjoyed numerous successes within his sporting portfolio, namely Arsenal's Premier League triumph last season. The American, who also owns the Los Angeles Rams, the Denver Nuggets and the Colorado Rapids, has a remarkable wealth estimated at £20.4bn.

Forbes Real-Time Net Worth has Fulham owner Shahid Khan boasting a fortune of £14bn that he first built through Flex-N-Gate, a motor vehicles company. On top of his ownership of the Cottagers, the billionaire also owns NFL franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Everton's ownership switched hands in 2024 when the Friedkin Group, led by American billionaire Dan Friedkin, completed a majority acquisition of the Toffees. The 61-year-old - who also owns Serie A giants Roma - has a net worth of £9.4bn.

Aston Villa are owned by V Sports, led by Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens. The Egyptian billionaire's net worth sits at £7bn, while Edens - who also co-owns NBA side Milwaukee Bucks - boasts a £1.7bn fortune.

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has a net worth of around £5.18bn, according to Forbes, which lists Tottenham's Joe Lewis as having the same wealth.
