It is the second consecutive loan spell for Grealish, who also saw a season-long move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium sanctioned for the 2025/26 season after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.
After inspiring David Moyes' side to some notable victories and showing plenty of promise himself particularly in front of goal, Everton opted against making a move for Grealish on a permanent deal amid a £50 million option to buy offered by Manchester City.
As such, the former Aston Villa captain returned to the Etihad Stadium for pre-season and the opening few matches of the 2026/27 campaign, with some believing that a comeback may be on the cards under new manager Enzo Maresca.
However, despite featuring on the field during the FA Community Shield defeat to Arsenal and the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign - a 2-1 win over Bournemouth - another exit was agreed upon by City to allow Grealish to return to Everton on loan.
Grealish responds to new Man City future questions
Now, speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Jack Grealish has answered a fresh line of questioning concerning his future at the Etihad Stadium, and particularly whether there remains any chance of a return to the club beyond his loan at Everton.
"I don't know, honestly," Grealish admitted, with the Englishman into the final year of his Manchester City contract, meaning an exit on a free transfer at the end of the 2026/27 season is currently on the cards.
"I just have to wait and see what happens and I just want to be enjoying myself and that's the main thing at the moment," the Everton loanee concluded.
What is expected around Grealish's Man City future?
Given the player's contractual status at the Etihad Stadium and Manchester City's willingness to sanction another loan deal, it is widely expected that Jack Grealish has now played his final game for the club.
As such, Manchester City would bid farewell to a player they invested £100 million on from Aston Villa back in 2021 and went on to be instrumental in their Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Champions League win of 2023 on a free transfer in 2027.
It remains to be seen whether Everton will re-emerge as a potential permanent suitor for Grealish at that point, and much will likely depend on his performances throughout this season, given the Englishman's salary expectations despite now being 31-years-old.
A future at Manchester City and the prospect of a new contract has only become further complicated through the club's new range of attacking options including Antoine Semenyo and Jeremy Doku, added to by summer recruits Iliman Ndiaye and Allan Elias.
