Chelsea have suffered a blow in their hopes of signing Arda Guler, with the Real Madrid star reportedly set to sign a new long-term contract. The 21-year-old has impressed since joining Madrid from Fenerbahce in 2023 and is now expected to remain at the Spanish club, as per latest transfer news.
Arda Guler set to stay at Real Madrid
As reported by TEAMTALK, journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Guler has agreed to sign a new deal with Real Madrid. The agreement is expected to keep him at the club until June 2032. Guler has made 116 appearances for Madrid since arriving from Fenerbahce, scoring 19 goals and providing 26 assists. He has mainly played on the wing or as an attacking midfielder.
His performances have attracted interest from several top clubs. Chelsea were among those looking closely at the Turkey international, with Xabi Alonso reportedly asking the club’s hierarchy to explore a possible move. Alonso knows Guler well after working with him during his time at Real Madrid.
The Chelsea boss was believed to be keen on bringing the youngster to Stamford Bridge. However, Guler now appears ready to continue his career in Madrid. The new contract would give the club further security over one of their most promising young players.
Chelsea face Premier League competition
Chelsea are not the only Premier League club that have been linked with Guler. Arsenal were reportedly interested in the Turkish midfielder earlier this year and even contacted his representatives to find out whether he would consider a move to north London.
Liverpool have also been named as admirers of the 21-year-old. However, all three English clubs now appear likely to miss out if Guler completes his new contract with Madrid. The midfielder has also made a strong start to the new season. Guler has featured in all four of Real Madrid’s LaLiga matches so far this season under Jose Mourinho**.** He has scored once and provided one assist.
His regular involvement suggests that Mourinho sees him as an important part of his plans. That could have played a role in Guler’s decision to stay at the club. For now, Guler appears focused on continuing his development in Madrid rather than making a move to English football.
Arda Guler’s Real Madrid stats for the 2025/26 season, as per FOTMOB:

Mourinho backs Guler’s potential
Mourinho has already made it clear that he has high hopes for Guler. The Real Madrid manager believes the youngster could eventually reach the level of midfielders such as Luka Modric or Bernardo Silva. He also suggested that Guler could change positions as his career develops.
Mourinho sees him as a player who could play as a No. 10 before eventually moving deeper into midfield. That flexibility could make Guler even more valuable to Real Madrid in the coming years. At just 21, he still has plenty of time to develop his game and take on a bigger role.
The new contract would also end much of the speculation around his future. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool may have to look elsewhere for attacking midfield options if Guler commits his long-term future to Madrid. For Chelsea, the news is another setback in their attempts to add young talent to Alonso’s squad. The club will now have to consider other targets as they continue to build for the future.
Guler, meanwhile, looks set to remain at Real Madrid and continue working under Mourinho. If he keeps making an impact, his new six-year deal could prove to be an important step in his career.
