The Phoenix Suns will have to deal without their starting center for an extended period of time after surgery.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Suns center Mark Williams underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder and will miss an extended period of time.
Williams reportedly suffered the injury in an offseason workout.
Williams signed a three-year deal with the Suns this offseason
Earlier this offseason, Mark Williams agreed to a three-year deal with the Suns worth $38 million.
The deal is fully guaranteed for Williams, who is coming off a solid first season with the Suns after being traded last offseason from the Charlotte Hornets.
He averaged 11.7 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block in 23.6 minutes per game as the Suns’ starting center.
The 24-year-old will be entering his fifth year in the league this upcoming season after being drafted with the 15th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Hornets.
His best season came during the 2024-25 season in which he averaged 15.3 points and 10.2 rebounds in 44 appearances with Charlotte.
During the same season, he was involved in a trade to the Los Angeles Lakers that was initially completed just before the deadline but was later rescinded due to his failed physical examination.
