As Todd Boehly prepares to sell his stake in Chelsea Football Club, the two main reasons behind his disagreements with Behdad Eghbali have been revealed.
The two Chelsea owners have not seen eye-to-eye for a number of years now after being the two key players behind the purchase of the club in 2022 from Roman Abramovich.
Eghbali, who is seen as a ‘fierce negotiator’, has become the face of the ownership as Boehly’s presence at games began to dwindle, and now the latter is close to selling his shares in the club to Clearlake Capital for a profit.
The two major disagreements between Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali
While both have been spotted at Stamford Bridge this season, Jack Rosser has been told by rival executives that there have been major clashes behind the scenes.
He told ‘Paper Talk’ that the pair have had disagreements over the future of the Stamford Bridge stadium, as well as who should be appointed manager at various times.
He said: “There have been a lot of clashes between Boehly and Egbhali. They’ve kept it fairly pleasant between themselves on matchdays, although they do have separate boxes at Stamford Bridge, but people that have seen them on the rare occasion, they attend games together, from rival teams, have said it’s all fairly pleasant, but there have been clashes over what to do with coaches.
“Boehly was more leading towards keeping Mauricio Pochettino when he was sat at the end of his season at Stamford Bridge and then the stadium as well. There’s a difference of opinion between the two on what to do in regards to Stamford Bridge, whether to redevelop there or move to a new site in West London.
“Two years ago, they started exploring the possibility of buying one another out when it was put on the back burner after a very heated week or two and lots of stories around that, and it’s been bubbling away ever since really.”

Eghbali and Boehly’s ownership has been protested various times by supporters, most recently ahead of the clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen how this change at the top is going to impact the future of the club, with Clearlake set to add to their majority stake with this purchase.
As for Mark Walter, who is another investor with the same stake as Boehly, the future is also looking uncertain. He is in hot water after personal financial misdemeanours.
