Roberto De Zerbi gives Tottenham team news vs. Everton featuring a ‘stupid injury’ and the…

Tottenham boss has provided a mixed injury update on his squad ahead of Everton’s visit.

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for the visit of Everton on Saturday evening, as Roberto De Zerbi eyes his first Premier League win of the campaign.

The Lilywhites are coming off the back of a goalless draw with Nottingham Forest, which turned out to be their first point of the season. It was an improved display from the defeats to Brentford and Newcastle United, but the onus will be on Roberto De Zerbi and Co. to register three points against David Moyes’ side at home.

Despite spending big on forwards, Spurs have failed to find the back of the net across 270 minutes of Premier League action. That is the surface problem. Underneath it, the injuries are beginning to shape the early weeks of the campaign.

Roberto De Zerbi provides Tottenham injury update ahead of Everton fixture

Ahead of the weekend’s clash, Roberto De Zerbi has now provided an injury update on the fitness of his players. The 47-year-old was handed a big boost earlier in the week following James Maddison’s return to first-team training. However, he will miss the services of Mykhailo Mudryk, who sustained an ankle injury in training.

“Kulusevski is not working with us in the last week. No big problem. The normal problem when someone is out for a long time,” De Zerbi said in his pre-match press conference (h/t Football London).

“Same with Mudryk. Was a stupid injury. We need him back soon because he’s suffered too much and he’s an important player for us. It’s the normal process after so long out. Maddison is back. Yes.”

Mykhailo Mudryk made his long-awaited return to competitive action last weekend, coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest. Unfortunately, in the build-up to the Everton game, the Ukrainian winger picked up an ankle injury and is reportedly set to be out for six to eight weeks.

In some positive news, James Maddison is back for Tottenham. The creative midfielder ad missed the last three games in all competitions because of a shoulder injury picked up in the opening weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford. The England international is now back in contention for this weekend’s home encounter.

De Zerbi will be thrilled to have the services of the creative Maddison back but equally disappointed with losing Mudryk for several weeks. The Italian tactician must somehow find a winning formula against the Toffees and kickstart Spurs’ season.
