Former Denver Nuggets forward Vlatko Cancar has suffered another significant knee injury ahead of the new season.
Cancar, who joined San Pablo Burgos this offseason, suffered a tear of the medial meniscus in his left knee during a training session. The injury will require surgery.
The Slovenian forward is scheduled to undergo surgery next Monday in Munich, with his recovery timeline to be determined depending on how he progresses following the procedure.
Cancar suffers another major injury setback
Cancar has endured a difficult stretch of injuries in recent years, preventing him from playing a full season and significantly limiting his time on the court.
His latest setback comes after a brief spell with Olimpia Milano last season. Cancar joined the EuroLeague club during the campaign, but lingering knee problems limited his availability, and the two sides ultimately agreed to terminate his contract after only a handful of appearances.
The 28-year-old was already coming off two injury-plagued seasons with the Denver Nuggets.
Cancar missed the entire 2023-24 NBA season after suffering a serious knee injury. He returned in 2024-25 but was limited to just 14 NBA appearances as physical problems continued to disrupt his season.
His injury troubles also kept him out of EuroBasket 2025 with Slovenia due to ongoing physical issues.
