Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has revealed that he was unhappy with how the club’s fans reacted to the Toffees’ failure to get some deals over the line.
Everton manager David Moyes was desperate to bring top players to the Hill Dickinson Stadium club in the final week of the summer transfer window.
However, the Blues failed to sign AS Monaco’s Folarin Balogun on the last day of the window, while deals for Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa’s Tammy Abraham fell through.
It left Everton with Thierno Barry as their only recognised striker, and fans have expressed how worried they are on social media.
Dewsbury-Hall believes they should look at the bright side given the quality of players available in the squad.
“I’ve seen all of the stuff, all of the meltdowns and this and that, and in all honesty, it annoyed me a little bit,” he told The Times.
“I get where people are coming from, everyone wants to sign everyone and have the perfect squad, but there are still 19 lads in this building who are going to hopefully take this club to good things this year.
“That was getting disregarded. I was seeing people saying, ‘We’ll be lucky to stay up this year’. What message is that sending to the lads who are already here? I’m not blaming anyone. We get it. It didn’t work. But let’s all be positive — right, it’s done, bang, let’s go — and that’s what we’ve been trying to say in the dressing room.”
Everton have started 2026-27 on an impressive note, winning their opening Premier League game and drawing the other two so far.
They have also booked a spot in the third-round of the Carabao Cup following a 4-0 victory over Preston North End last month.
They take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday after tomorrow’s league game against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Toffees will hope they can continue to impress until the winter transfer window opens, and Moyes will be desperate to recruit some key players for the second half of the campaign.
