The Atlanta Hawks will be getting back to work in a few weeks, as they recently announced that they'll be having training camp at Vanderbilt University starting on Sept. 29. Ahead of training camp, they've already started to make some moves to the roster, as they've waived Devin Carter.
“The Atlanta Hawks have waived Devin Carter, league sources told Hoopshype. The 24-year-old guard averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes during 38 games played for the Sacramento Kings last season,” Scotto wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The Hawks traded for Carter in a deal with the Sacramento Kings during the offseason. It was a trade that was low-risk for the Hawks, as they didn't give up much, and the Kings were looking to move off one of the several guards they already had on the team.
Carter hadn't been able to see much playing time in his first two seasons with the Kings, but saw an increase in minutes toward the latter part of last season.
Going into training camp, the Hawks would've had an influx of guards on the team. Now, they have CJ McCollum who they re-signed during the offseason; Kingston Flemings, whom they selected in this year's draft; and Ryan Nembhard, who was in the deal that sent Zaccharie Risacher to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Hawks were also going into camp with 17 players on the roster, and they would've had to cut some players at some point. Carter was the first on the list, and there's no doubt that more moves will be on the way before the start of the season.
