Packers Cut Wide Receiver Just Before Season Opener
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Green Bay Packers released wide receiver Bo Melton on Friday. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky also reported that Melton was with the team during practice on Friday.
In this case, it appears to be a procedural move by the Packers and not a farewell. Melton, who is projected to clear waivers, will return to the practice squad before possibly even playing Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings as a gameday elevation. This according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.
Having Melton part of a Week 1 roster shuffle makes more sense than simply getting rid of a versatile player who is beloved by the coaching staff.
