The Packers released Melton today in what ESPN’s Rob Demovsky called “roster management.” The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman added that, after rejoining the team, Melton is expected to still play in Green Bay’s season opener this Sunday as a standard gameday practice squad elevation before returning to the 53-man roster next week. As a vested veteran, Melton is able to sign with each roster without having to pass through waivers.
