**Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer doesn’t believe that Lewis Hall’s new contract will completely end speculation about the player’s future.**
The 21-year-old penned a five-year extension on Friday, keeping him at St James’ Park until the summer of 2031. However, Shearer says the fact that top left-backs are so rare means Hall will always be in high demand, especially if he maintains his current form:
“It’s great news for Newcastle that Lewis Hall has signed a new long-term deal. There is always going to be interest from other clubs in top players and he’s a top left-back. There’s not many good left-backs out there and Newcastle have got a really good one, so I understand why other clubs were sniffing around him in the transfer window.”
“The only issue is that I wonder how important his contract will be if he wants to leave one day. However, at the minute he seems very happy and happy enough to sign that new deal. So I’m pleased for Newcastle and him. I have been really impressed with his start to the season. He now just needs to stay fit because, if he stays fit, he’s one of, if not the best, left-back in the league.”
Newcastle United are prepared to sell their star players

While Hall has shown his commitment to the club, the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea may not be deterred because of the Magpies’ recent track record.
Their willingness to offload the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon may give encouragement that Hall will be on the market again in the future.
The club have protected Hall’s value

If a team does make an approach for the England international in the future, though, he will not be available on the cheap. The [**contract extension**](https://newcastleunitednews.org/blog/newcastle-united-transfer-news-lewis-hall-2/), combined with the player’s form, means that Matthias Jaissle’s side can demand top dollar.
As Shearer also points out, the fact that he is up there with the best left-backs in the country too means that Newcastle will feel completely justified in holding a club to ransom if they decide to make an offer.
