MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - In honor of those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001, 25 years ago, 350 volunteers mobilized in Memphis to pack more than 185,000 meals for those in need.
Volunteers assembled the meals Friday at FedExForum.
The food will go directly to Mid-South Food Bank. It’s part of a nationwide effort supported by the nonprofit 9/11 Day, which aims to turn the somber anniversary into America’s largest day of unity and service.
The Memphis Grizzlies sponsored Friday’s event at FedExForum.

“We are the first NBA arena to host an event like this, which is pretty special,” said Abusheri Ohwofasa, vice president of community engagement with the Memphis Grizzlies. “It’s great to know that the meals today are always supporting the local areas in need, and so we are excited that The Mid-South Food Bank will be receiving the meals packed today.”
For this year’s campaign, the nonprofit 9/11 Day aimed to have 50,000 volunteers across 50 cities pack 20 million meals in one day.
