The Boston Celtics have already set their sights on a solid backcourt addition ahead of the 2026-27 season.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Celtics have shown interest in signing former lottery pick Devin Carter once he clears waivers after being released by the Atlanta Hawks.
Per Fischer, the Hawks are waiving Carter after acquiring him in an offseason trade with the Sacramento Kings, in which he and the Kings' 2033 second-round draft pick were dealt for the draft rights to Alpha Kaba.
Carter is coming off two seasons with the Kings
After being selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft by the Kings, he went on to play a total of 74 games over two seasons with the franchise.
While he had a quiet rookie campaign, averaging just 3.8 points, he had a much more effective second season.
In 38 games last season (12 starts), he averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in around 18 minutes of action while shooting 41.4% from the field.
The 24-year-old also had multiple standout performances in the G League last season with the Stockton Kings.
He appeared in five games with them during the 2025-26 season, averaging 23.2 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists in 33 minutes of play.
Now, with a potential move to Boston, he would provide additional backcourt depth, joining the experienced backcourt rotation of Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Mike Conley.
