Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has revealed his frustration at some of the reaction toEverton’s difficult end to the transfer window, particularly suggestions that the Toffees could find themselves in a relegation battle.
There was plenty of anger among supporters after a chaotic Deadline Day, with David Moyes missing out on several targets as attempts to strengthen his squad fell short.
Dewsbury-Hall understands that frustration but admits some of the reaction annoyed him because of the message it sent to those already at the club.
Speaking in an interview published by The Telegraph, he said: “I get where people are coming from. Everyone wants to sign everyone and have the perfect squad, but there are still 19 lads in this building who are going to hopefully take this club to good things this year.
“That was getting disregarded. I was seeing people saying: ‘We’ll be lucky to stay up this year.’
“What message is that sending to the lads who are already here?”
The frustration among Evertonians after Deadline Day was understandable. Moyes wanted more players and didn’t get them, particularly up front.
But Dewsbury-Hall was clearly unimpressed by how quickly disappointment with the window turned into predictions of another season fighting at the wrong end of the table.
Three games in, Everton have five points and are unbeaten. There is a long way to go, of course, but Dewsbury-Hall and his teammates have made a decent enough start to proving a few people wrong.
