Richarlison now looks set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur until January after his proposed move to Vasco da Gama fell through. Richarlison had been linked with a return to Everton during the summer after being left out of Roberto De Zerbi’s 25-man Premier League squad.

But he now looks set to remain with Spurs until the January transfer window opens after failing to agree personal terms with Vasco da Gama. Spurs, it is claimed, had agreed a fee with the Brazilian side for the 29-year-old, who last week was exploring whether the final nine months of his contract at the club could be terminated.

Reacting to his move to Vasco collapsing, the Brazil international said: "Hey there, Vasco fans. This week has been pretty hectic. I decided to take some time to thank the Vasco fans. Pedrinho, Felipe. We were very close to me signing with Vasco. My team, the team of my whole family.

"It was a close call. I had made it very clear to Pedrinho and Felipe from the beginning of the conversation that I wanted to play for Vasco until December. When other clubs and other offers came up, I made it clear that they were my priority. This time, it was a close call," the striker declared in a video posted on social media.

"Unfortunately, Tottenham reached the loan limit, so it didn't work out either. But that's it. I wanted to thank you, the Vasco fans, who sent many kind messages. Asking what time and day I would be at the airport so they could come and have a party and pick me up. But let's leave that for another time. I believe I'll be at São Januário, in Barreira, soon.

You know how much I care about you all, and one day I will realize this dream, which is mine, my grandfather's, and my family's. I'm speaking from the heart because I really want to be at Vasco. That's it. Thank you all very much. Soon we will be wearing the Vasco shirt.

"There's even one over there, there are many over there. I found this one, and since Pedrinho has been at Vasco, in charge, he sends me many Vasco shirts, at every launch, he knows I'm a Vasco fan. Thanks. Soon we will be at São Januário, in Barreira, and "that's us"

Asked for the latest on Richarlison during Friday’s press conference, De Zerbi said: “I don’t know. It’s not my job. What I can say is I know very well what the club has done for Richarlison and I know very well what Richarlison has done for the club in the last month, two months.

“I know, the club knows, he knows, his agent knows. Everyone knows better than you (the media).”

Before De Zerbi added: “I’m sorry because I have one player less on the list. Richarlison is a good guy, a very good guy.

“I spoke with him a lot of times and I spent time to convince him to stay, but if you ask me, I know the truth. I know what happened in the last month, the last 45 days and it’s clear, but I’m not frustrated.

“If I had decided myself to leave him outside of the squad, I would have regrets, but the decision has not even been taken by the club.

“It has been a consequence of what I told you already that he has decided by his own. I’m sorry because it could be different. Even the end of the story, but a different way, I think.

“It could have been better, or it was much better, Richarlison, inside of the list, Richarlison happy to stay, maybe to extend his contract, because he is still an important player. He was important last season, we can’t forget, but we can’t forget also the last 45 days.”

Spurs return to Premier League action this evening when they take on Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Blues are unbeaten so far this season, while Spurs are still looking for their first point of their Premier League campaign.

Mykhailo Mudryk will miss the game in the capital, with De Zerbi admitting on Friday: "It was a stupid injury of Mudryk, and we hope he can be back as soon as possible. For him and for us.

"For him, because he suffered too much and for us because we lost one player, an important player. He played 20 minutes, 15 minutes in Nottingham. He played well, but it's the normal process when one player doesn't play for a long time."

Dejan Kulusevski will also be absent for Spurs, while Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert remain long-term absentees, but James Maddison could return.

While David Moyes is expected to be without Christian Norgaard, who looks to be out of action until after the international break.
