The onus is solely on the 47-year-old to get the best out of the squad at his disposal.
De Zerbi makes clear demands to Tottenham players ahead of the visit of Everton
After back-to-back defeats to Brentford and Newcastle United, Spurs were industrious yet insipid against Nottingham Forest. A point at the City Ground, where we have struggled to get results in recent years, represented slight progress, but nothing more.
Now, back at home, the Lilywhites have the best opportunity to kickstart their campaign. De Zerbi knows the value of playing in front of the jam-packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which acts as the 12th man and more often than not motivates their team to fight until the last.
On the eve of Everton’s visit, the Italian boss has urged his boys to raise the intensity levels on Saturday. He is demanding that our team plays with courage, personality and passion to kindle the noise from the home support and take the game to the Toffees.
“I would like to see my players playing with courage, with personality, with energy – what we are doing on the pitch on the training ground,” De Zerbi told the SPURSPLAY.

“I would like the players to start the game, the first 10 minutes, with energy to deserve the support of the fans. I can say I know this stadium, especially after last season; the last games with me in my time, they were fantastic in our stadium.
“And now, I think they are waiting for a signal from us. And for that, I would like to start the game with personality, with energy, with pressure, with qualities to bring them inside of the pitch.”
De Zerbi has to get his team balance right vs. Everton
Spurs will want to build on the point they earned at Forest. We face an Everton side who are unbeaten in their three games so far and head to N17 off the back of a last-gasp equaliser against Manchester United. David Moyes’ side will be up for the physical battles, trying to make it a scrappy affair as much as possible.
The Lilywhites are desperate to end the goalscoring drought, but in search of that, De Zerbi simply cannot get his team selection wrong. He has to pick the strongest XI, whilst maintaining the balance. Undoubtedly, our boys have to start on the front foot and take the game to the Merseysiders. Decision-making and execution in the final third will be vital if we are to register our first league win of the 2026/27 season.
