Tottenham look to end their three-game winless run in the Premier League when they welcome Everton to N17.
Roberto De Zerbi steadied the ship last season and kept Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He was rightly backed in the summer transfer window by the club’s hierarchy.
Spurs made it their focus to bolster every area of the squad as they looked to provide Roberto De Zerbi with the tools capable of competing this season. However, De Zerbi is yet to record a win this season, despite spending approximately £314million in the transfer market, including £85m on Mateus Fernandes.
Mateus Fernandes, a summer signing from West Ham, has endured a slow start to life at White Hart Lane. He is gradually settling in at the club, having made four appearances in all competitions.
Mateus Fernandes urges Tottenham teammates to stay calm and focused
For Spurs fans at the moment, as difficult as it may be, patience is the name of the game. The club has revamped the squad with technically strong, versatile and top-flight proven commodities, and it is going to take some time before we can see consistently good performances from De Zerbi’s side.
Mateus Fernandes is not much worried about his team’s underwhelming start, as he remains calm and confident that Tottenham will begin to pick up wins.
“I know what it is like: when you win, you are the best. When you lose, you are the worst,” Fernandes said in an interview to Sky Sports.
“We just focus on us. If you believe in the club, if you believe in the manager, you know that you need to take some time to learn the timings, everything tactical, and when you arrive there, it is like ketchup. It starts spilling.
“This is one of the reasons that I came here, to play for winning something. We want to win the games, we want to fight for the titles and, with this squad, it is normal that we want to fight for the titles.”

Spurs were the brush of a Neco Williams’ hand away from making it three losses from three games this season. They are up next against Everton in what is already shaping to be a must-win for De Zerbi. The 47-year-old goes into this weekend with pressure building, and he must do everything possible to kickstart Tottenham’s season.
A player like Fernandes will be crucial. The Portuguese midfielder will be itching to start against Everton and deliver a strong display after coming off the bench at Forest.
