Mohamed Belloumi gave Hull City a surprise advantage at Stamford Bridge, but João Pedro’s second-half goal earned a draw for Chelsea.
João Pedro salvaged a point with a second-half equaliser, but Chelsea were held in another chaotic contest on Saturday, drawing 2-2 with Hull City.
Morgan Rogers fired in the opener after just seven minutes, but Mohamed Belloumi’s six-minute double completely turned the game on its head before half-time.
Brazil international João Pedro fired in a powerful finish after 66 minutes, denying Hull what would have been another impressive scalp early in their return to the Premier League – and the chance to sit top of the early league table.
But Chelsea were unable to find a winner and they remain one place and one point behind third-placed Hull, who are still unbeaten.
Hull’s defence was breached for the first time in the league this season when Rogers shifted away from Regan Slater and rifled a low effort inside the near post, with João Pedro having set him up.
Chelsea looked dangerous when going forward, but when Ryan Giles’ hopeful, looping cross was misjudged by Jorrel Hato, Belloumi punished him with a fine finish beyond Emiliano Martínez.
The Blues were somehow behind six minutes later, with Oli McBurnie teeing up Belloumi for his second after Semi Ajayi’s header came back off the crossbar.
Reece James went close to bringing Chelsea back level after the break when his free-kick was only just pushed away from the top corner by Konstantinos Tzolakis, and it was João Pedro who restored parity when he fired in from Cole Palmer’s cutback.

Hull nearly stole all three points in the 88th minute, with Mohamed-Ali Cho unable to get the better of Martínez at the back post from around eight yards out.
Chelsea substitute Estêvão felt he should have had a penalty when his cross appeared to strike the hand of Ajayi, and he also tested Tzolakis in stoppage time, but there was to be no late twist.

Few would have predicted that Chelsea would be sitting below Hull in the standings midway through September, but fans of the promoted side left Stamford Bridge full of pride after their team produced another impressive display which saw them go toe-to-toe with the Blues’ star names.
Despite it being a less-than-vintage team performance for Chelsea, the hosts’ front three were at least able to continue their spectacular start to the season.
Rogers joined elite company as he became only the fifth Chelsea player to either score or assist in each of the club’s first four games of a Premier League season, matching the accomplishments of Didier Drogba (2010-11), Cesc Fàbregas (2014-15), Diego Costa (2014-15 and 2016-17), and Eden Hazard (2018-19).
João Pedro could be a Golden Boot contender this season but he also has three assists to go with his three top-flight goals, and he is tied for first position in both columns after this game. Meanwhile, a resurgent Palmer already had four goals to his name across all competitions before adding his second assist of the campaign by cleverly setting up the Brazilian forward’s equaliser.
Indeed, Palmer was the only player on the pitch to create more than two chances.
However, Chelsea are still left with just seven points out of a possible 12, a surprising return given they have opened the scoring in each of their first four Premier League games of a season for the first time since 2021-22 (when they did so in the first five matches).
The Blues have seized control of each match, netting rapidly on every occasion, with all those four openers each coming inside seven minutes.
But Chelsea have been unable to keep things tight at the other end of the pitch, and they have now conceded two or more goals in their first four top-flight games for the first time in more than a decade (2015-16 being the previous occasion).
While this game had slightly less goalmouth action than Chelsea’s 6-3 victory over Leeds United in the EFL Cup last time out – indeed, the Blues only generated chances worth 0.89 expected goals (xG), with Hull creating a higher quality of opportunities at 1.49 xG – Chelsea fans will have concerns going into next Friday’s testing away trip against Brentford.
Hull, meanwhile, will look to continue their dream start away to Newcastle United.
