The New York Giants are set to begin their season with a division showdown against the Dallas Cowboys, and it sounds like the team is already keying in on one area where they think they’ll have an advantage.
As the Cowboys prepared for the upcoming season, the team made a roster addition that Giants star linebacker Brian Burns seems to think is a sign of weakness.
Cowboys Signed Broderick Jones
------------------------------
It’s been widely expected that Terence Steele would serve as the starting right tackle for the Cowboys this upcoming season. However, the Cowboys recently acquired veteran tackle Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers to compete for the starting role.
“It was a surprise, but I was excited for the change,” Jones said in his first interview following the trade from the Pittsburgh Steelers via the Dallas Cowboys team site. “You know, just going into the year after last year, me getting injured and just trying to get my feet back up under me — I feel like a new start was needed for me. I’m just ready to get here and get started.”
Jones suffered a season-ending neck injury back in November, but he’s been working his way back to health.
“I feel like I’m doing great so far after the injury,” Jones said. “Everything’s looking how it’s supposed to. I’ve been out there, I’ve been playing. I’ve got back into the game. … I’m getting \[back to full health\]. I’m not fully where I want to be, though. I would say probably like 85, 90 percent.”
‘An opportunity to exploit’
---------------------------
While the Cowboys undoubtedly hope that the move helps bolster their offensive line, Burns saw adding a less-than-healthy player late in the preseason to compete with a perceived starter as a sign of weakness at that position, and it sounds like he and the team are planning to try to exploit it.
“I mean, opportunity lies within the game,” linebacker Brian Burns said, via Pat Leonard of the [New York Daily News](https://www.nydailynews.com/2026/09/11/brian-burns-cowboys-right-tackle-concern-giants-pass-rush/). “They’re both pros. Not to disrespect anybody’s craft or anything like that, but the fact that they are so concerned in that area does, I guess, raise some form of an alert in our minds, as far as like just knowing that they’re having struggles.
“So we can definitely see that as an opportunity to exploit.”
We’ll have to see whether or no tthis does turn out to be a weakness for the team.
