**Everton extended their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a hard-earned goalless draw against Tottenham in north London.**
David Moyes’ side had opportunities to take all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Brennan Johnson passing up their clearest chance against his former club in the second half.
[Everton](https://readeverton.com/) were largely comfortable against a Spurs side still searching for their first Premier League goal of the season, although Jordan Pickford was called upon late on to preserve a clean sheet.
Moyes made one change from the 2-2 draw with Manchester United, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles replacing the injured Merlin Rohl and making his first start for the club.
Spurs made the brighter start and enjoyed plenty of possession, but struggled to turn it into clear opportunities as Everton defended their penalty area well.
The visitors gradually grew into the contest and offered more of a threat as the first half progressed, although neither goalkeeper was seriously tested before the break.
Everton became increasingly adventurous in the second half and were handed a huge opportunity when Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky misplaced a pass straight to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. The midfielder’s effort lacked the power to punish the mistake and Kinsky recovered to save.
Jack Grealish replaced Tyrique George shortly afterwards and Everton continued to carry a threat as Spurs became increasingly frustrated.
The visitors should have taken the lead with 16 minutes remaining. Johnson found himself unmarked around 15 yards from goal but, with time to take a touch, elected to hit the ball first time and sent his effort over the bar.
Johnson was replaced by Hayden Hackney moments later, with Jake O’Brien also coming on for Maitland-Niles.
Jarrad Branthwaite made an important block to deny Sandro Tonali as Spurs pushed forward late on, before Pickford got down to turn Lucas Bergvall’s long-range effort behind in the closing minutes.
Dewsbury-Hall had one final effort deflected behind in stoppage time, but neither side could find a breakthrough.
Everton remain unbeaten after four Premier League games and will perhaps feel they had the better opportunities to win this one. Moyes will nevertheless take another point, a clean sheet and a disciplined away performance back to Merseyside.
