Everton player ratings vs Tottenham: Branthwaite outstanding as Toffees stay unbeaten

Everton maintained their unbeaten Premier League start with a disciplined 0-0 draw against Tottenham in north London.

Everton had opportunities to win it, most notably through Brennan Johnson in the second half, but David Moyes will take plenty from another clean sheet away from home.

Here are our Everton player ratings from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Everton player ratings

Jordan Pickford – 7

Had surprisingly little to do for long periods as those in front of him protected him well. Made an important late save from Lucas Bergvall to preserve the clean sheet.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 7

A solid first Everton start. Defended well, offered something going forward and continued the promising start he made from the bench against Manchester United.

James Tarkowski – 8

Strong in the air and organised those around him. Spurs had plenty of possession but found very little joy through the middle.

Jarrad Branthwaite – 8.5

Our man of the match. Calm throughout and produced an excellent block to deny Sandro Tonali as Spurs pushed for a winner.

Vitaliy Mykolenko – 7.5

Another quietly effective performance. Defended his side well after a difficult opening ten and rarely gave Spurs an easy route into the Everton box.

Harrison Armstrong – 7

Plenty of running and discipline in midfield. Helped Everton through Spurs’ brighter opening and competed well throughout.

James Garner – 7

Competitive and tidy alongside Armstrong. Did plenty of the ugly stuff as Everton kept Spurs at arm’s length for long periods.

Brennan Johnson – 6

Got himself into the position to win the game against his former club but couldn’t take the chance. Should at least have tested the goalkeeper from around 15 yards.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall – 7.5

At the heart of several of Everton’s better moments. Could have punished Antonin Kinsky’s poor pass and later supplied the ball for Johnson’s big chance.

Tyrique George – 6.5

Some promising moments without really taking control of the game. Worked hard before making way for Jack Grealish after 64 minutes.

Thierno Barry – 6.5

A difficult job leading the line largely on his own. Competed with the Spurs centre-backs but Everton couldn’t get him into dangerous positions often enough.

Substitutes

Jack Grealish – 6.5

A few neat touches after replacing George and offered Everton another option down the left, without having a major influence on the game.

Hayden Hackney – 6

Helped Everton maintain their shape after replacing Johnson for the closing stages.

Jake O’Brien – 6

Sent on for Maitland-Niles and did his job as Spurs pushed forward late on.

Man of the match: Jarrad Branthwaite – 8.5/10
