Eagles announce disappointing Eli Stowers news before Week 1 image
The Philadelphia Eagles made a massive change to the offensive side of the ball this offseason, parting with A.J. Brown and filling his absence with Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, and Eli Stowers.
While Stowers is a tight end, he's a solid receiver and could become a nice weapon for Jalen Hurts. But that will have to wait for a while after the latest announcement from the team.
The Eagles announced that Stowers will miss their Week 1 matchup against the Washington Commanders, but that he is also landing on the injured list and will miss the first four games of the 2026 season at minimum.

"We have downgraded TE Eli Stowers to out for tomorrow's game with quadriceps and hamstring injuries. He has been placed on the Injured Reserve List," the Eagles announced.
Philadelphia placing Stowers on IR, as per their announcement Saturday, is some huge news for the second-round rookie tight end.
He's had a quiet training camp and offseason overall, due to a combination of injuries and struggles when he has had a chance to see the field.
Stowers might be a developmental tight end and likely wasn't going to see much work to begin the 2026 season.

But that doesn't mean this IR placement doesn't hurt. Not being able to use him, even as a backup or depth option, is some tough news for the Eagles and their rookie.
Stowers' placement on injured reserve could open the door to the Eagles bringing Zach Ertz back to Philadelphia, but for now it's going to be Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, and E.J. Jenkins manning the tight end work this season.
This is a tough blow for Stowers and the Eagles, as their rookie tight end has gotten off to a poor start to his Eagles tenure, between his on-field struggles and now this injury that's requiring a stint on the Injured Reserve List.
