Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has claimed that Justin Herbert will become the best quarterback in NFL history. Talking on Michael Irvin’s show “The White House,” Harbaugh said that by the end of Herbert’s career, people will remember him as the greatest player at that position.

“Allow me to call my shot, like Babe Ruth pointing his bat over to centerfield: Justin Herbert, when it’s all said and done, when his career comes to an end, I predict he will be known as the greatest, best ever to play the position of quarterback,” Harbaugh said. “When it’s all said and done, and his career is finished, we’re going to look back and say, ‘Yep, that’s the best that ever did it’.”

Football Fans Didn’t Mince Words on Jim Harbaugh’s Remark
Herbert is yet to win a playoff game in his career. Nonetheless, Harbaugh is very bullish on his quarterback. On social media platform X, fans mocked Harbaugh’s comment, with one user writing that there’s no way Herbert will surpass Tom Brady.

“Remember what he said about McCarthy?” one commented.
“Jim Harbaugh also thought it was a good idea to punch Jim Kelly and broke his hand. He also stunk in Tecmo Super Bowl,” another wrote.
“Not a chance. Harbaugh needs to be drug tested,” another wrote.
“Not even Justin Herbert believes that one,” a fan wrote.
“Cheater is also an idiot,” another commented.
Harbaugh has been known to praise his players before as well. Before the 2024 NFL draft, he called former Michigan Wolverines QB J.J. McCarthy the best quarterback in the draft. The two had together led Michigan to a national championship just months ago.
“I think he plays quarterback the best of any quarterback in the draft,” said Harbaugh in March 2024. “He’s incredible. So, big market, small market. Cold weather, hot weather, it won’t matter.”
“That was the best throwing day I’ve ever seen,” Harbaugh added. “Like I predicted, once they were around him, I was hearing the stories about how he is on the board, how he is on the field, the little things, the intangibles. I mean, it was absolutely no surprise whatsoever. But yeah, there was raving, and it was great to hear and incredible to hear.”
However, McCarthy’s NFL career is currently going through a rough patch. After missing the 2024 season due to a knee injury, his 2025 performance was not up to par. The Minnesota Vikings have made Kyler Murray the primary starter for the 2026 season and Carson Wentz the backup, pushing McCarthy down to the team’s No. 3 quarterback.
