Chiefs announce major Patrick Mahomes injury update before Broncos game image
Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL last December, adding insult to injury, literally, amid the Kansas City Chiefs' difficult 2025-26 season. He's been rehabbing ever since, and now, the moment has arrived for him to step onto the field for the team's Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos.
Now, Mahomes has been officially okayed to take the field and play on Monday. Of course, it was expected that he'd be back, but it sure feels good to see it official.
As of Saturday, Mahomes has no injury designation, according to the official injury report released by the team. He'll start for the Chiefs for "Monday Night Football" against the Broncos.

Mahomes was a full participant for the team's Thursday through Saturday practice week, so it makes sense that he now has no injury designation. It's still significant, though, because this team hasn't been totally sure about whether he would be ready to go for Week 1 until the past few weeks.
The Chiefs need him, too. Last year, the team wrapped up a 6-11 season, in which the guys didn't make it to the postseason for the first time since 2014 and the first time in the Mahomes era. They also finally ended their streak of nine straight AFC West titles.
A healthy Mahomes is just what this team needs. He's a three-time Super Bowl MVP and takes the field in his 10th year in the NFL. He's 31 and turns 32 in just a few days, on Sept. 17.
The Chiefs will play the Broncos starting at 8:15 p.m. ET Monday.
