The NBA has formally informed all 30 teams of the projected salary cap for the 2027-28 season, per Fred Katz of The Athletic.
The league’s new projection sets the salary cap at $176 million and the luxury tax line at $213 million, with the cap coming in $2 million higher than the league’s previous projection.
NBA salary cap projections increased
Back in June, the NBA projected that the salary cap would increase by 5.5% for the 2027-28 season, reaching approximately $174 million.
The updated projection represents a 6.7% increase over the previous year's salary cap, which shows that league revenues are bouncing back slightly faster than expected.
For NBA front offices, this extra $2 million gives expensive teams crucial breathing room below the restrictive luxury tax aprons while boosting the values of max player contracts and mid-level exceptions.
