Tucker Kraft Goes From Breakout Star to Highest-Paid TE After Packers' $92M Commitment 1
Tucker Kraft’s contract situation looked like it might drag into the regular season. Instead, the Green Bay Packers got the deal done just before Week 1, and they made a massive commitment to their young tight end in the process.
The Packers and Kraft agreed to a four-year extension worth $75 million, with the deal carrying a maximum value of $92 million and a $26.5 million signing bonus, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Kraft will remain under contract through the 2030 season and will become the NFL’s highest-paid tight end.

The timing makes the agreement even more notable. Kraft was entering the final year of his rookie contract, and negotiations had become a little uncomfortable as the season approached. Fowler reported earlier in the week that the talks had become “a bit of a standoff.”

The Packers still wanted to get something done; however, there was no guarantee the two sides would reach an agreement before Sunday. They eventually did. Kraft’s new contract has a $75 million base value, which comes out to $18.75 million per year across the four new seasons. The maximum value reaches $92 million, while his average over the first three new years is $19.66 million.
That puts Kraft at the top of the tight end market. George Kittle was previously averaging $19.1 million per year, while Trey McBride was at $19 million. Kraft’s deal pushes him past both of them, even though the base value of his extension remains below the $20 million annual mark he was reportedly looking to reach.
The Packers are making that investment based largely on what Kraft showed before his 2025 season ended. Through eight games last year, Kraft caught 32 passes for 489 yards and six touchdowns. He was on pace for 64 catches, 978 yards, and 12 touchdowns over a full 16-game season before tearing his ACL against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.
That injury could have complicated the contract negotiations. Instead, the Packers moved forward with the belief that Kraft can return to the player he was before the injury.
He had already taken another step in 2024, catching 50 passes for 707 yards and seven touchdowns. His production was trending upward, and the 2025 numbers suggested he was becoming a much bigger part of the Packers’ passing game.
However, Kraft has been busy using this offseason to come back from his ACL injury as well. He was seen practicing in training camp and is expected to be on the field for Green Bay’s first game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Packers had already signed extensions with other important players this offseason, such as Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Isaiah McDuffie, and Devonte Wyatt. Kraft was the final player whose contract needed to be extended, and he now has that.
