While there was no disputing who Liverpool’s ‘best’ player was in the goalless draw against Fulham, two of the first players hooked attracted the wrong attention.
The Reds never truly looked like scoring at Anfield, struggling to penetrate a Fulham side who enjoyed a comfortable afternoon on their way to their first point of the season.
Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool Echo, ESPN and TIA’s readers.
With the exception of the Echo, Jeremy Jacquet (7.00) was the only player to end the match with Man of the Match plaudits, with a goal-line clearance among his significant contributions.
For the rest of Iraola’s side, the ratings were not too kind after familiar issues came to the fore.
Kostas Tsimikas (4.83) and Ryan Gravenberch (4.88), who were the first players subbed, could hardly be separated after their respective forgetful performances.

The Echo‘s Ian Doyle noted the Dutchman looked “visibly uncertain about where he should be playing,” while Tsimikas was deemed “generally second-best” by his most generous judge, ESPN’s Tom Fenton.
Dominik Szoboszlai (5.60), meanwhile, split opinion, earning a high of seven out of 10 from ESPN, and a lowly rating of four from the Echo – it sums up the situation!
What the stats say: Midfield issues
The midfield combination of Gravenberch and Szoboszlai was not flattered by the stats either, despite their relatively ‘high’ rating (above).
But it was Liverpool’s No. 8 who was highlighted by FotMob for all the wrong reasons, losing more duels than any other player, managing just one success (1/10), and conceding the most fouls (4).
Together, Szoboszlai and Gravenberch combined for just five successful duels from 17 contested – Jacquet (8) and two Fulham players (6) all managed more than the duo’s attempts added together.
On a positive note, Jacquet was also statistically the standout, finishing with the most touches (97), highest speed of any Red (34.6 km/h), and the most line-breaking passes (16) – the next best was Fulham’s Shea Charles (11).
