The 2026 summer transfer window was a bit of a classic, with Premier League clubs racking up a total spend of close to £3.5 billion, with many of the highest profile deals happening between league rivals. For example, Chelsea spent £117m to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, before selling Enzo Fernandez to Man City for a similarly mega £125m fee.

Overall, the likes of Manchester City, Brentford and Tottenham will be delighted with the business they were able to do over the summer months, while Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Everton will be among the clubs already looking forward to the January transfer window, having had a grim three months of player trading during the off-season.
Today’s rumours round-up begins with ex-Manchester United star Jadon Sancho, who is still up for grabs as a free agent after leaving the Red Devils after his contract expired at the end of last season. According to Football Insider, the 23-cap England international is yet to receive any “formal offers”, but is thought to have interest from a number of top level clubs.
The report goes on to suggest that Sancho will take his time to plot his next move, as he looks to reignite his career at 26-years-old. He had been linked with a third spell at his former club Borussia Dortmund, but the club are said to be wary of doing a deal due to the player’s expected wage demands.
The 3AM Verdict: We’ve already given our verdict on Sancho’s future -we think he’d be a great signing for Crystal Palace, and they’d be a great club for him. He’s played plenty of football over the past couple of seasons with loan spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa, but he needs to find a club soon to avoid being completely rusty when he does make a return.

For our second story, it’s over to Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are still ruing their failure to sign a new midfielder on Deadline Day to replace Fernandez. They attempted to sign both Roma’s Manu Kone and Monaco’s Lamine Camara, but failed to sign either on a highly frustrating final day of the summer window. In January, they could reignite their interest in Kone.
That’s according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, who say that the Blues will make a fresh offer for the Serie A star, after not managing to get a £51m deal over the line earlier this month. Roma are said to be bullish in their refusal to let Kone go, and will look to rebuff any offers for their top midfielder, amid rival interest from Chelsea’s league rivals Liverpool.
The 3AM Verdict: The Blues made a total hash of replacing Fernandez on Deadline Day, and are now in a position where they’re regularly having to use right-backs in midfield - something that’s far from ideal for a club with aspirations of getting back into the Champions League. Kone would be a great January signing, and they should have the funds necessary to tempt Roma into selling.

We’ll stay in Italy for our final story, and zip 170 miles north to Florence, where Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour is picking up some big Premier League interest. So say Caught Offside, who assert that Aston Villa are keen admirers of the two-cap Italy international, who is believed to have an asking price of around £30m.
Villa aren’t thought to be alone in their apparent desire to sign the 22-year-old, with both Liverpool and Inter said to be among his admirers. The player’s current contract runs up until the summer of 2029, meaning Fiorentina should be in a strong position when it comes to negotiating a potential fee should the linked sides come calling in January.
The 3AM Verdict: We’re always a bit sceptical of this style of article from this particular publication, which uses most of its word count to wax lyrical about a player’s ability while offering limit detail on the story itself. £30m isn’t a bad price for a player of Ndour’s quality and potential, but whether the likes of Villa are genuinely interested seems dubious.
