Chelsea Women confirmed XI vs Man Utd as Potter starts

Chelsea Women have confirmed their starting XI for Sunday’s Women’s Super League clash with Manchester United.

Sonia Bompastor has made two changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Aston Villa on the opening weekend.

Kadeisha Buchanan comes into the defence in place of Veerle Buurman, while Lexi Potter is handed a start with Aggie Beever-Jones dropping to the bench.

There is also positive news surrounding Nathalie Björn, who is fit enough to be named among the substitutes after returning to team training.

Chelsea Women starting XI vs Manchester United

Chelsea: Hannah Hampton; Ellie Carpenter, Lucy Bronze (c), Kadeisha Buchanan, Katie McCabe; Keira Walsh, Lexi Potter, Sjoeke Nüsken, Wieke Kaptein; Lauren James, Alyssa Thompson.

Substitutes: Livia Peng, Veerle Buurman, Nathalie Björn, Julia Dragoni, LdS, Maika Hamano, Sandy Baltimore, Aggie Beever-Jones.

Potter’s inclusion is the standout selection decision.

The academy midfielder was named among the substitutes against Aston Villa but is now trusted from the start for Chelsea’s first away league fixture of the season.

Buchanan also returns to the starting XI alongside captain Lucy Bronze at the heart of the defence.

Nathalie Björn returns to Chelsea squad

Björn’s presence on the bench represents another encouraging development for Bompastor.

The Sweden international had returned to full team training before the match but faced a late decision over whether she would be fit enough to feature.

She has now made the travelling squad and gives Chelsea another experienced defensive option if required.

Bompastor has otherwise retained much of the team that dominated Aston Villa without finding the victory their performance deserved.

Hannah Hampton continues in goal, while Ellie Carpenter and Katie McCabe keep their places.

Keira Walsh, Nüsken and Kaptein are again involved in midfield, with Potter now added to the starting combination.

Lauren James starts as Chelsea seek first WSL win

Lauren James keeps her place after scoring Chelsea’s goal on the opening weekend.

Alyssa Thompson also starts, while Beever-Jones moves to the bench.

Chelsea produced more than 30 attempts against Aston Villa but were forced to settle for a point after conceding late.

Chelsea will now look to turn their opening-weekend dominance into a first WSL victory of the campaign.
