Chelsea Women secured their first Women’s Super League victory of the season in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 demolition of Manchester United.
Sjoeke Nüsken and Keira Walsh gave Sonia Bompastor’s side complete control before half-time at the Progress With Unity Stadium.
Lauren James added the third after the interval before Ellie Carpenter made it four and captain Lucy Bronze completed the rout deep into stoppage time.
It was the perfect response after Chelsea were frustrated by Aston Villa on the opening weekend.

Nüsken and Walsh put Chelsea in control
Chelsea dominated from the opening stages and repeatedly prevented Manchester United from playing through their press.
The breakthrough eventually arrived through Nüsken.
Wieke Kaptein helped create the opportunity before Nüsken found the finish to put Chelsea ahead.
The pressure did not stop.
United struggled to escape their own half and Chelsea soon doubled the advantage when Bronze found Walsh, who produced an excellent finish from the edge of the area.
Chelsea had been criticised for their lack of ruthlessness after creating chance after chance in the opening-weekend draw.

There was no repeat in Manchester.
This time Chelsea converted their superiority into a commanding lead.
Lauren James continues brilliant start
United needed a major response after the interval.
Instead, Chelsea continued to control the contest.
James scored Chelsea’s third to continue an excellent individual beginning to the WSL campaign after also finding the net against Aston Villa.
The England international had been used through the middle rather than with a conventional No.9 and rewarded Bompastor’s decision with another goal.
James has now scored in each of Chelsea’s opening two league fixtures.
That is particularly valuable while Bompastor remains without several recognised attacking options.
Chelsea had been wasteful despite James’ excellent opener against Villa, as detailed in ReadChelsea’s opening-day match report.
Against United, the supporting cast ensured her contribution helped produce three points rather than one.
Carpenter and Bronze complete Chelsea rout
Chelsea refused to settle for three.
Carpenter added a fourth as United’s defensive resistance completely disappeared.
The Australian was rewarded for another energetic performance from full-back as Chelsea continued attacking despite the result already appearing secure.
Bronze then completed the scoring in stoppage time.
The captain’s late strike produced a remarkable final scoreline:
Manchester United 0-5 Chelsea.
It was also an excellent response defensively.
Chelsea gave United very little encouragement and secured their first league clean sheet of the campaign.
Chelsea make statement after Aston Villa frustration
The transformation from the opening weekend was striking.
Chelsea had dominated Aston Villa territorially but finished with only a 1-1 draw.
Seven days later, Bompastor’s side travelled to one of the tougher venues in the WSL and scored five without reply.
Nüsken delivered.
Walsh delivered.
James scored again.
Both full-backs got on the scoresheet.
And Chelsea finally produced the clinical performance Bompastor had been demanding.
The result also extends Chelsea’s extraordinary league record against Manchester United, who remain without a WSL victory over the Blues.
