The Los Angeles Rams have taken a big blow to their defense and it comes in the form of superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett.
According to [Netflix Sports’ Tom Pelissero](https://x.com/TomPelissero/status/2099155462910308504), Garrett will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and will be placed on injured reserve.
“Rams star Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his ailing knee and is headed to injured reserve,” Pelissero reported.
With his placement on injured reserve, Garrett will miss at least four games.
Pelissero adds that Garrett had been “dealing with lower-leg pain,” an issue he was going through during training camp, which kept him limited.
The Rams’ next four games are tough ones, with Los Angeles set to face the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills in that span.
The earliest Garrett can return is in Week 6, when Los Angeles hosts the Arizona Cardinals.
The Rams acquired Garrett in a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Browns in June.
Los Angeles gave up Jared Verse, 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick and a 2029 third-round selection in exchange for Garrett.
Garrett was set to team up with another generational talent in Aaron Donald, who decided to come out of retirement after two seasons away from the NFL.
Donald did not suit up in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, which means we’ll have to wait until at least Week 6 to see Donald and Garrett on the field together for the first time.
It was very clear Garrett was not himself in the season-opening loss to the 49ers.
Pelissero reported from the sideline that Garrett looked “gassed,” which wasn’t all that surprising considering his limited status throughout the offseason.
Garrett later lamented his struggles, saying he needed to be better.
“This was the worst version of myself that I’ve put out there,” he said. “I’ve got to be better. I’ve got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be and I’ve shown that I’ve been before.”
Garrett later went on to note that “getting healthy” was his primary focus.
“That’s the main thing,” he added. “When I was out there I was a little more focused on myself and trying to stay healthy than what they were doing, and it showed. I wasn’t what I needed to be for my team.”
Now, Garrett will have four weeks to get right and the hope is that he can bring his elite pass-rush prowess back to the Rams as early as Week 6.
