Celtics reportedly interested in $22M former first-round elite defender to pair with Jayson Tatum image
The Atlanta Hawks have made a good chunk of moves this summer in terms of their roster, including some very effective trades for the team. The Hawks have made some decisions to move on from NBA champions like Jonathan Kuminga, but have added NBA champions like Lou Dort.
Atlanta has had to make other crucial roster moves that include letting go of a former first-rounder. The Hawks recently waived Devin Carter.
“The Atlanta Hawks have waived Devin Carter, league sources told hoopshype. The 24-year-old guard averaged 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 18.4 minutes during 38 games played for the Sacramento Kings last season,” HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto wrote.
Now, Carter will have the option to go wherever he wants to at this point in his career. Carter will have some time to really think about what the right decision is. The Boston Celtics have shown interest in the former first-round pick.
“The Boston Celtics have shown interest in signing Devin Carter, sources say, once the Providence product clears waivers,” Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer wrote.
Boston is looking to be a top team in the highly competitive Eastern Conference. Jayson Tatum is looking for a new duo after the team traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers. If the Celtics sign Carter, it will be the final roster spot.
“The Celtics currently have 14 players under contract entering the season, as well as two players under two-way contracts. Carter could become their 15th rostered player,” Celtics Blog’s Noa Dalzell wrote.
Atlanta had to make the roster decision as they are over the allowed roster limit. Carter still has a ton of upside and can really impact the bench unit for the team this season.
Carter was on a $22 million rookie contract before being let go, allowing him to learn from guys like Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Tatum. This would be a nice under-the-radar signing for Boston if they decide to get it done.
