Mike McDaniel hype for Chargers for 2026 is brutal indictment on Tua Tagovailoa image
The Los Angeles Chargers are one of the teams with the most hype around the NFL this upcoming season, and it's thanks in large part to Mike McDaniel.
This Chargers team was already garnering plenty of hype, but the addition of McDaniel has taken the hype to new levels. Heading into the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals, the reporting was, understandably, full of more hype.
However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network's report on the hype for McDaniel revealed to be a brutal indictment of former Miami Dolphins and current Atlanta Falcons quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. This report from Rapoport makes Tagovailoa look a lot worse.
Chargers' Mike McDaniel hype report makes Tua Tagovailoa look a lot worse
"My understanding is there are some plays, a lot of plays, that he has never been able to call, that we are going to see this year because he has Justin Herbert with the arm to do it. They are going to unleash and unlock so much of McDaniel's playbook that he has not been able to call for years," Rapoport reports.
This is a very exciting report for Chargers fans. Hearing that Justin Herbert is talented enough to unlock more of McDaniels' offense, especially considering he was a great coordinator before, should get Chargers fans hyped for this season.
On the other side, however, this report makes Tagovailoa look a lot worse. While it's not a secret that Tagovailoa has some issues with his arm strength and isn't the best at downfield passes, it doesn't change how brutal this report is.

Rapoport is essentially reporting that Tagovailoa wasn't talented enough of a passer to make the most of McDaniel's ability as a play caller.
This is a rough report for Tagovailoa, especially considering he's not playing in Week 1 due to an oblique injury he sustained during practice for the Falcons.
But while this is a brutal indictment for Tagovailoa, it's the kind of reporting that Chargers fans should love to hear.
Herbert is incredibly talented and should help McDaniel unlock more of his offensive playbook. Considering how great he looked with the Dolphins, it's very exciting to imagine how good he'll look with an elite passer like Herbert.
