Jay Glazer left viewers stunned during the first FOX NFL Sunday of the season when revealing that Los Angeles Rams star Myles Garrett will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and is being placed on injured reserve (IR).
It didn't take long for the drama to unfold during the popular FOX Sports show on Sunday, with news of Garrett's injury coming as a huge shock to fans, given the "monumental" blow it represents for the Rams at this early stage of the season.
It was less than 48 hours earlier that Garrett had played for the NFC West franchise in its season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, a 7-27 defeat, though the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year was far from his usual self as he struggled with a lingering knee injury.
Garrett had been dealing with the issue throughout preseason, yet attempted to play through the pain against the 49ers, only to struggle immensely as he failed to record a single tackle or quarterback hit.
After the game, Garrett publicly admitted he was "the worst version of myself," having put all his focus into not re-injuring his leg, leading to the decision to be made for him to undergo surgery at the earliest opportunity.
The news was officially broken by Glazer on today's broadcast of FOX NFL Sunday, with the 56-year-old confirming reports from NFL insiders that surfaced online earlier this morning through his signature "Glazer's Scoopage" segment.
"The Los Angeles Rams aren't going to have him for the next four weeks," Glazer said. "The team has decided they're going to have him undergo arthroscopic knee surgery, and they will put him on short-term IR."
Per NFL rules, Garrett must miss at least 4 games after being placed on IR, though the Rams are said to ideally expect him to return as soon as his 4 weeks are up.
Nonetheless, he will miss matchups against the New York Giants in Week 2, the Denver Broncos in Week 3, the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4, and the Buffalo Bills in Week 5, with his earliest possible date to return to the field coming in Week 6 when the Rams host the Arizona Cardinals on October 18.
Given the scale of the news, which comes off the back of the Rams being blown away by the 49ers in their season opener in Australia, despite putting together one of the most dominant pre-seasons in recent history, show host Charissa Thompson responded with a shocked "wow" following Glazer's announcement.

"Huge loss," Thompson added, before Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive back and analyst Charles Woodson responded: "I thought they were going to win the Super Bowl."
Fans also quickly made up their minds about the outcome of the decision to place Garrett on IR for the next four weeks, with one person posting on X: "The shortest Super Team run of all time," alongside a laughing emoji.
A second person said: "Dang, 49ers lost Daejon Love and the Rams lost Myles Garrett. That overseas game was brutal," while a third added: "Brutal news. He didn't look right at all in the opener in Australia."
