While Liverpool is still dealing with the frustrations that came from a draw against Fulham on Saturday, a decision on Sunday, almost 1,000 miles away, has given the side a huge boost.
After a summer that involved many moves, one that may have gone under the radar was Ifenayi Ndukwe 's official switch to Anfield from Austria Wien.
The youngster didn't take long to announce himself to the Liverpool fans, however, as he impressed during preseason with some imposing performances while the Reds were lacking some center-back options.
So impressive were his displays that there were calls for Ndukwe to feature this season. That wasn't possible from the start, however, due to work permit rules in the United Kingdom.
Rules for players joining from abroad state that they must reach a points threshold to land a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE), which is acquired by playing a certain number of matches in leagues.
Ndukwe didn't reach that threshold, and while an alternative would be to register him as an Elite Significant Contribution (ESC) player, Liverpool didn't have any free spots in the squad to allow him to be registered for the season.
That ultimately led to a situation where he would have to go on loan. A move to Levante in La Liga was secured, with the plan being to get him some experience playing in the top flight.
While it has been tough to break into the team so far, Ndukwe finally got his debut, coming off the bench in his side's 4-2 defeat at home to Barcelona.

Those minutes on the pitch ensured that the young defender finally met the GBE requirements for a work permit in the UK, in a major boost to the Reds.
There is a break clause in Ndukwe's loan, which will allow him to return to Liverpool in January if the club wishes, while reports have claimed that the Reds will reassess the situation when the winter window comes around.
It could give Andoni Iraola another option in his backline, during a season that is already taking its toll on a thin squad of players being asked to play an intense style.
The manager recently admitted that his players were lacking freshness after featuring three times in the space of a week or so, only affirming concerns held over the lack of depth.
Ndukwe may help fix that, offering quality and potential in January, should he return. It may have been around 1,000 miles away, but that substitution may have given the Reds the boost they need.
