The summer transfer window closed just a couple of weeks back but it looks like clubs are putting plans in place for the future ones already. And one [Newcastle United](https://readnewcastle.com/2026/09/13/real-reason-juventus-signed-nick-woltemade-from-newcastle-united/) player appears to have caught the eye of Liverpool.
Liverpool are in transition at the moment. They have a new manager in place in the form of Andoni Iraola and it remains to be seen whether he can deliver success at Anfield.
The start has not been particularly impressive as Liverpool have drawn three of their opening four games this season. So, one would imagine that they will look to improve moving forward and also strengthen the squad in the future to meet lofty high expectations of their supporters.
Lewis Hall was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United all summer. A move did not end up happening and the left-back stayed put.
Not just that but he has also signed a long-term extension with Newcastle United. But according to [James Wathland](https://x.com/JamesWathland/status/2099170647737827462), Liverpool have placed Hall as a top target for the summer of 2027.
Obviously, many will point to Hall’s contract extension as a sign that no move is on the cards for the foreseeable future. But that is not always true when it comes to players with long-term deals.
Let us take Enzo Fernandez for example. The Argentine had a contract running until 2032 at Chelsea. But that did not prevent him from leaving for Manchester City this summer.
If the player does not want to stay, more often than not, they do end up getting a move away. It rarely matters how long their contract is with the club.
Hall has shown that he is committed to the Newcastle United project, at least for the time being, by signing the long-term extension amid interest from Manchester United.
That being said, the situation can change quickly if the club continue to struggle. The Magpies finished 12th in the Premier League last season.
A repeat of such a situation might not be enough to convince Hall that Newcastle United is the place to be. In that situation, he might start pushing for a move away.
So, success might be the key to keeping players like Hall at St James’ Park for the foreseeable future. Now, it remains to be seen whether it happens or not.
