Malik Nabers has been working his way back from an ACL injury that forced him to miss nearly all of last season. While questions surrounded his availability for the New York Giants‘ Week 1 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, it appears the franchise finally got a clear answer about his return.
Reports indicate that the 23-year-old wide receiver is returning and will play for the Giants on Sunday night, according to Connor Hughes of SNYtv. Nabers is in line to serve as the club's go-to pass option for quarterback Jaxson Dart.
“BREAKING: Giants WR Malik Nabers will play tonight vs. the Cowboys, sources tell SNYtv,” Hughes reported.
There was some fear that the third-year wide receiver wouldn't be ready for the first game of the season. But those fears were put to bed just hours before kickoff. Nabers will line up as the WR1, while the rest of the wide receiver room will be a mix of rookie Malachi Fields, Darnell Mooney, and potentially Odell Beckham Jr.
The former first-round pick has flashed major potential early in his career. Before sustaining the ACL injury last year, Malik Nabers had recorded 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns through four games. His rookie campaign was incredibly exciting, as he surpassed 1,200 yards in his first year.
He'll have his hands full on Sunday night, however, as the Cowboys have improved their defense this offseason. Regardless, the Giants have plenty of excitement brewing in New York after having a rather exciting offseason after hiring John Harbaugh as head coach.
